Two Inches of Growth Overnight?!

Two Inches of Growth Overnight?!

Today, I just want to tell you a funny story. As you may have discovered in your own lives, sometimes family members can be the most difficult to convince to be your “guinea pigs”. Except my son, everyone else in my house takes serious convincing. My husband is supportive, but the most difficult to convince to try new things. The hair oil was no exception.

Anyway, while I was working on my haircare formulations, I had some leftover hair oil in a beaker that I wanted to use up. Of course, my son ran to get his fair share. My daughter agreed but was unsure. She just liked the way it smelled. So, I applied the hair oil to her scalp and hair. The next day, I looked at her and was wondering why her hair looked so messy, but didn’t say anything. Later in the day, I hear her talking to her best friend (my husband) telling him, “Oh my gosh Dad. Ma put that oil in my hair, and I’m not lying, it grew two inches overnight!” [Insert my skeptical side eye here.]

I acted like I didn’t hear the conversation. The next day, I was taking her to get her hair done and she repeats the same story to me. Now, I have a very analytical brain and knew I had not experienced overnight growth like that (although, mine was pretty amazing too). She likes to keep her hair in two-strand twists, so the new growth at her scalp is easily noticeable. Before I applied the oil, it looked regular. Two days later, her hair looked like two-strand twists attached to a frizzy afro!

The next time I made more oil, I had some leftover again. I asked who wanted some, the kids came running. I still had some left and asked my husband if he wanted some. He looks at me like I’ve just said something ridiculously crazy! Then, he says, “No, I don’t need my hair growing that fast. I have weeks before my locks get retwisted.” He takes his appearance more seriously than I do…anyway, my sad face and the good smell of the oils convinced him to let me apply it to his hair (not his scalp). That was enough for me.

Why did I bother telling you this story? Well, for a couple of reasons. First, do not quit pushing towards your goals even if those around you don’t seem to appreciate it. Secondly, results are different for each individual. You will never know how it affects you until you try. Third, sometimes a look or smell can draw you in and you will discover that trying something new was the best thing you could have done. Don’t be afraid to try something new, it could become your next favorite thing….
